about
Weighed it on a scale
Lighter than air
Invisible sometimes
Difficult to care for
Gathers such dust
Impossible to clean
My days are numbered but it may be many
Time will tell
Saw it on the news
What a time to shoot
You'd they'd get bored of death
But the wheels keep turning
Pothole is the bath
The blood is the wine
The culture's the salted brine
But the meat's been spoiled
Time will tell
I saw the spider in your hair
Can't tell the strands from the web
Lost in ascetic gardening
Trepidation
Musaceae
lyrics
"Time Will Tell" was written through a lens of matter-of-fact despair. Depicting existential dread by way of black comedy is a recurring tactic for songwriter Zac Hryciak, and this track is no exception. The song begins with a volley of repeated drums and percussion reminiscent of Radiohead’s “Reckoner” before being engulfed by the rippling fuzz of a chromatic guitar line. Soon after, the pop-oriented vocal melody and harmonies of Zac Hryciak and Paula Lavalle kickstart the verse, establishing a lush, haunting soundscape. Formerly of the mindset to constantly challenge the listener to continue to listen, Spooky Cool changed gears with this song and simply asks the listener, "Can melancholy still make you dance?"
